Historic housing with a century of plumbing history layered into it.
Ogden has some of the oldest continuously-occupied housing on the Wasatch Front — the 25th Street area and the east bench run 1890s through the 1930s.
A century-old house has rarely been re-plumbed all at once. It has been re-plumbed in patches, so a single wall can contain galvanised, copper and PEX joined by whatever fittings were on the truck that decade. Dissimilar-metal connections corrode, and the failures cluster at those joints. Knob-and-tube-era homes also complicate any wet-wall demolition, because the wiring inside is not always dead.
The Ogden and Weber rivers converge here, and homes on the low ground near either take groundwater during a strong melt year.
